About 100 YEARS TO EXTINCTION

Our mission is to spread awareness about the dangers to life on Planet Earth and to rally the whole Earthling tribe to pursue strategies to ensure the survival of humanity and its monumental accomplishments.

Stephen Hawking predicted humanity’s extinction on Earth within 100 years, and he could be right. He issued this warning: “With climate change, overdue asteroid strikes, epidemics and population growth, our own planet is increasingly precarious.” He also cautioned us about the danger of uncontrolled artificial intelligence, nuclear war, and harmful genetic engineering. So many of our wonderful advances also come with dangerous applications. He proposed that humans must become a multi-planet species.

This site is devoted to the strategies we can pursue to mitigate the dangers on Planet Earth and to the steps needed to create a settlement on Planet Mars. Many of these topics are explored in the contemporary novel “100 Years to Extinction” by Peter Solomon. Excerpts devoted to the dangers and solutions appear on the Novel page.

With the current chaos in today’s world, 100 years may seem overly optimistic.

That urgent, existential threat to our very existence should be a resounding wakeup call. But what can be done to change the catastrophic trajectory? There are organizations worldwide devoted to combating the threats such as the Nuclear Threat Initiative, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Greenpeace, Fridays for Future, Sapienship, and many more. While some organizations have millions of members, they are just a small fraction of the billions of earthlings that will be affected by extinction.

The need exists to wake up and rally the young people who will inherit our threatened world. Young people need to be educated about the threats and mobilized to combat them. The following suggested activities could be a start:

1. The dozens of organizations devoted to saving the planet should form an umbrella organization (let’s call it 100 YEARS TO EXISTENCE) run and supported by their leaders. The goal of 100 YEARS should be to educate young people to the threats to humanity and create a means for young people to exert influence.

2. For education, 100 YEARS should create sets of curricula for elementary school through college that deals with the threats to the planet and potential solutions. The organization should make the curricula available in many languages, promote their use in schools, and stream lectures.

3. For exerting influence, 100 YEARS should support the creation of an International organization devoted to worldwide political action. Call it the International Planet Party and tailor it to the needs of young citizens. Reach out to young people like Greta Thunberg did. Branches can be established in each country with the goal of influencing that country’s politics.  

4. 100 YEARS should establish a cable TV channel and multiple social media presences devoted to education and a forum for the International Planet Party and its branches.
